A Brief History of St. Luke's...

St Luke’s is situated in the Wellington area of Hanley and was consecrated as a place of worship in 1854.  Built in the Early English style, it comprises of a chancel, nave, north aisle, and north and west porch, the latter having been added in 1878; there is also an incomplete tower. In 1847 an organ chamber was built, and an organ introduced.

It was extensively refurbished in 1981 and we are preparing to have some more work done in the summer to refurbish the kitchen and redecorate of the hall area.

Wellington is an inner-city area very close to the city centre with a population of c.3,500.  Most of the housing is older terraced, small, modernised property, with five high-rise blocks of local authority flats, although recent building-work has provided an estate of mostly ‘starter’ homes.
